The Landscape
The landscaping of the house will require a lot of hard work as well. We intend to remove a few eyesores, and add shrubs and flowers to accent the grounds. We have a few larger projects coming, too, such as a front porch and a deck or patio out back.
The tree in this picture will be removed, and the small section of old privacy fence will be replaced. The grass will be tilled and reseeded. We're planning on building a small deck in this area; the two center windows will be replaced with french doors leading to the deck. |
These shrubs are a recent addition, and will remain, though pruned and kept up. Some of the mulch has been scattered, but that will be fairly easy to clean up. The solar lamps will be replaced. The shrub in the middle will be removed, to accommodate steps leading up to the deck. |
This shrub is way too large, so we plan on replacing it with a smaller species. There will be privacy fence on this section as well. |
This brick path looked decent at one time, but the large tree on the side has destroyed it over the decades. The brick will be replaced with a stone walkway when the tree is removed. |
The entire chain link fence will be replaced with a privacy fence on all sides, for the sake of Bacchus, our puppy in the picture. The tree in the distance is too close to the fence line, and will eventually cause damage; it will need to be removed. |
I used to climb this tree like a monkey when I was a kid. Unfortunately this tree, while it provides a lot of shade for the back yard, is diseased. It has been dropping (very large) limbs and branches during storms throughout the years. Sadly, it should come down and be replaced with another tree. |
Anyone need a tractor tire? That is the remains of an old sandbox that my dad made when we were little. The grass needs to tilled and reseeded. The far section of the yard used to be a gravel driveway; the gravel needs to be removed and the area tilled and seeded. |
Two words for the skate ramp: BYE BYE!! Again, the two trees will need to go; one is too close to the garage, and the other is diseased. This will eliminate the shade for the yard, so a new tree will be placed more conveniently. The fire pit will be moved to a better location and surrounded with stones. |
Another view of the damage that the growing tree has caused over the decades. It has already caused major leakage on the inside of the garage. For this area, we're thinking, "Less Tree, More Garden." The gate will be replaced to match the privacy fence we're putting up. Once the tree is gone, and the stone path redone, an arbor would look nice over the pathway. |
These stepping stones are somewhat dangerous in their current condition; they will be removed, and the stone walkway extended to the driveway. Flowers or vines could be placed in the corner intersection of the fence. |
